Description
The drinking fountain located west of Holywell Manor House is a Boer War memorial, dating from around 1902. It is constructed from grey and pink granite and features a circular drum with a moulded plinth and cornice. There is a small basin on the east side and a trough on the north side, both with moulded edges. Inscribed on the side of the drum are the names of Smith Bewick and William Coxon, who fell at Shoreman's Drift and Rheinosterfontein in South Africa in 1901. Atop the drum is a vase that rests under a domed canopy, which has a ball finial that was removed for repair at the time of the survey, supported by four columns.
