Description

The Cave is a house dated 1838, featuring the initials 'C.B.' on the front door lintel. The building has an ashlar front with rubble sides and rear, topped by a slate roof and corniced stone gable stacks. It is two storeys high and has three bays, creating a symmetrical appearance. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with an overlight, framed by a raised surround and cornice, and is sheltered by a later glazed porch. The windows are 16-pane sashes with slightly projecting sills. To the right, there is a lower block that is slightly set back, which has one bay and features a 20th-century ground floor window and a renewed sash window above. It is said that this house was built as the residence for the mine manager.
