Description
This is a chimney located on the west side of the B6341, about 100 metres north-north-west of Cragside Park House. It was built in the third quarter of the 19th century for Lord Armstrong. The chimney is made of cut stone, featuring a yellow brick furnace arch. It has a square base with moulded corners and a furnace arch on the southeast side, supporting a circular shaft with a moulded top. The overall height of the chimney is approximately 7 metres.
This chimney, along with another one situated further up the hill, was part of a complex ventilation system for Lord Armstrong's conservatory. A fire lit at the base of each chimney would draw smoky air up a long underground flue, directing it away from the heating apparatus located beneath the conservatory.
