Description
This is a ruined bastle house located approximately 300 yards east of West Ealingham Farm, dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century. The structure is built of massive random rubble and measures 36 feet by 24 feet. It was originally two storeys high but is now roofless. The front wall and right return stand to about 7 feet, while the rear wall reaches approximately 12 feet, and the left gable is nearly at full height. The walls are 4 to 4½ feet thick. There is a later opening on the front wall, and the original ground-floor doorway on the left return features rounded jambs and a massive lintel. Inside, there is an old wood lintel, along with rebates for a horizontally-hung door and drawbars. The left gable also contains three square recesses on the first floor.
