Description

The Thompson headstone, dated 1717, is located 16 metres south of the south aisle of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Embleton Village. It is made of sandstone and features a small stone with an arched top. The west face displays an open semicircular pediment with a cherub and a worn inscription dedicated to John Thompson. The east face is decorated with a death's head over a staff, accompanied by a shield bearing three stars to the right and an animal, possibly a dog, to the left.
