Description
The Purvis headstone, located 16 metres east of the Church of All Saints, dates from 1786 and is made of cut sandstone. The stone features a shaped top with a sunk panel on the west side, which displays a cherub flanked by a self-swallowing serpent, a scythe, and a death's head. This panel includes an inscription dedicated to Robert Purvis of Ewesley, who died in 1786. On the east side, there is a cherub's head above a swag, flanked by an hourglass and a book, along with an inscription for John, the son of Thomas Purvis of Hollinghill, who passed away around 1792.
