Description

The monument to Walter Mavin, located at the southeast of the detached graveyard, was erected in 1900. It is made of cut stone and features a rectangular plot with a chamfered kerb and a headstone inscribed with the name Walter Mavin, known as 'the Coquet Angler', who lived from 1814 to 1900. The headstone includes a relief carving depicting a river scene with fish, a heron, and bulrushes, along with the following verse:

"BUT WHERE'S THE AULD FISHER SAE BENT AN' SAE LAME WHA CAM ILKA SPRING WI' HIS ROD AN' HIS CREEL? DEATH'S CA'D HIM AWA' TO HIS LANG LATEST HAME AND HE'LL WANDER NAE MAIR BY THE STREAMS HE LOED WEEL."
