Description

Prudhoes House is a house, now vacant office, dating from around 1700, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed rubble and ashlar, featuring ashlar dressings. It has a slate roof with ashlar coped gables that include kneelers and two reduced gable stacks. The house is two storeys high.

The south front has a first floor band and raised quoins, presenting a five-window facade. The central doorway is framed by a moulded surround with a cornice, featuring double doors and an overlight. On either side of the doorway are two plain sash windows, also in moulded ashlar surrounds. Above, there are five plain sash windows in similar surrounds.

The north rear front includes a central projecting gabled stair turret, which has a large round-headed sash window in a moulded ashlar surround with a keystone. To the left, there is a lean-to addition with a brick stack and plain sash windows, along with a gabled through-eaves dormer window.

Inside, the house retains original features. The southwest front room has panel shutters, a moulded cornice, a plaster ceiling, a round-headed cupboard, and some panelling. The staircase is a single flight with a return, featuring two turned balusters per tread and a ramped and moulded handrail. The stair window is adorned with a fluted pilaster surround and keystone.
