Description

Gardener's cottage, greenhouses, potting sheds, and garden walls at Prudhoe Hall were built around 1867 and 1898 for the Liddell family. The structures are made of brick and coursed squared stone, with ashlar dressings. The garden walls, made of brick, feature gabled ashlar copings and enclose a rectangular plot approximately 200 meters by 100 meters, with canted corners to the southwest and southeast.

The buildings form a single range on the north side, with the cottage and potting sheds facing north, while the remainder faces south. The cottage has a slate roof and coped gable stacks, is two stories high, and has three windows. It features a central four-panel door with an overlight, flanked by plain sash windows. Above, there are three similar sash windows, all with heavy ashlar lintels. The potting sheds on either side of the cottage have irregular openings.

To the east of the cottage is a canted conservatory flanked by integral vine houses, designed by Richardson of Darlington. This wooden structure has a hipped roof and top light glazing in the conservatory, along with ridge ventilators. The interior retains remnants of cast iron staging. Further east, there is a smaller lean-to greenhouse. The garden walls include gateways to the south and east, topped with stepped gables. The potting sheds to the northwest were rebuilt in the late 20th century and are not of special interest.
