Description

The stable block, located 30 metres north-west of Blenkinsopp Hall, is a Grade II listed building that includes a coach house, stables, and living quarters. The rear range and return wings were built in 1833, as indicated on the pediment, while the front range was rebuilt in 1903, marked by a date on the parapet. The structure is made of dressed stone with graduated green slate roofs and stone chimneys, featuring a glazed iron canopy on the rear range. It is designed in a Tudor/Gothic style and consists of four ranges surrounding a rectangular stable yard.

The single-storey front range has five bays and a taller central square-plan tower. The flanking walls step back, and the end bays project outward. The tower features a moulded triangular-headed archway with a clock face and cross-loops above. The flanking walls are featureless, while the end bays contain 3-light chamfered-mullioned windows with latticed casements. Moulded octagonal plaques on the parapet include one on the left bay dated 1903.

The two-storey rear range has six bays, with central paired doorways flanked by elliptical coach arches and doorways in the end bays. Above, there are six 2-light windows in chamfered surrounds, with three windows on the left half retaining their sashes and mullions. The pediment over the two central bays features a boarded-over clock face in a surround dated 1833. The low-pitched hipped roof has four ridge stacks, and the entire ground floor of the rear range is covered by a canopy with a low pent glass roof supported by arch-braced iron brackets.

The single-storey return wings each have three bays, with two 2-light windows and an elliptical coach arch leading to the yard, topped with low-pitched roofs.
