Description

New Bridge, also known as Telford Bridge, is a bridge built between 1829 and 1831 by Thomas Telford. It is constructed of ashlar stone and features three broad segmental arches with rusticated voussoirs. The arches have broad splays at the springing that taper to nothing at the crown. Triangular cutwaters rise above the arches and are topped by tapering panelled pilasters. The bridge has a moulded base to the parapet and moulded coping. Additionally, there are four cast-iron lamp standards with decorative scrolled ironwork positioned above the pilasters.
