Description
Ridley Bridge is a Grade II* listed bridge over the South Tyne, constructed between 1788 and 1791 by Robert Mylne. It is built from squared, tooled, and margined stone and features two lofty segmental arches with arch rings made of deeply tooled stone. The bridge has a central pier with triangular cutwaters and a pilaster above, along with a band located below the parapet. The parapets have sloped coping and splay out at the ends to square piers. On the internal face of the west parapet, there is a panel with the inscription: "BUILT BY THE COUNTY 1792." Additionally, there is a ramped retaining wall made of squared rubble with flat coping that curves from the south end of the eastern parapet, ending at a fifth square pier.
