Description
South Hazelrigg Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in 1828 for Carnaby Haggerston. It is constructed of ashlar stone and has a Welsh slate roof. The building features three by two bays with a service wing at the rear, creating an L-shape. The central staircase plan is designed in a double range. The main entrance has a round arched doorway with a slightly projecting keystone and a fanlight with glazing bars. Above the door is a datestone carved with "C H" and a lion, dated 1828.
The ground floor has 12-pane sash windows, while the upper floor has renewed sashes and additional 12-pane sashes throughout the house, including a round-arched window in the staircase. The roof is gabled with end stacks.
Inside, the farmhouse retains a good early 19th-century interior, featuring the original staircase, an inner doorway with a six-panelled door and glazed sidelights, and a broad fanlight above. There are also internal shutters and six-panelled doors.
