Description
Greenhead House is a bastle house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 17th century and 18th century. It is constructed of large rubble with dressings and features a Welsh slate roof, with stone slates on the rear and one brick stack. The building has two storeys and three irregular bays.
The left-of-centre door, which has been renewed, is set in a shallow porch that dates from 1631. This porch has a low-pitched gable and a re-used lintel inscribed with "FEARE GOD IN HART R.K.M.K." The windows are renewed plate-glass sashes set in late 18th-century openings. There are various blocked openings, including an original byre door with a flat-pointed head to the left and a first-floor door above the porch.
On the far left, there is a buttress-like projection that is part of the gable end of an earlier house to the west. The gables feature raised coping, and there are end stacks, with the right stack having been rebuilt in the 20th century on an old base. At the rear, there is an outshut from the 18th century, which includes a doorway with a chamfered surround.
