Description
Nos 1 and 2 and the garage adjacent to the Ship Inn are a group of cottages and an outbuilding located in Low Newton-by-the-Sea. These structures date from the 18th century and were remodeled in the mid-19th century. They are built of rubble with cut quoins and dressings, and are whitewashed, topped with a Welsh purple slate roof featuring brick stacks.
The outbuilding, which was formerly an inn stable, is a single-storey structure with one bay. It has boarded sliding doors and 20th-century windows. The cottages are one storey with attics and consist of five irregular bays. They feature two boarded doors with three-pane overlights near the center, along with two additional doors set within 20th-century pent porches.
The ground-floor windows include six 8-pane and four 12-pane sash windows, some of which have been renewed. There are five half dormers with 9-pane casements, all set in stone surrounds beneath coped gables on moulded kneelers. The end gables are coped, and the roof has two ridge stacks, one at the right end and a smaller stack on the front slope. The rear elevation displays three pairs of 12-pane sash windows.
