Description

The retaining wall at the head of the valley side, located 50 metres north-east of Dilston Castle, is part of the kitchen wing of 17th century Dilston Hall. It is constructed of squared stone and measures 20 metres in length, providing support at the top of a steep wooded slope. The left section of the wall stands 2 metres high and features an opening for a slab-roofed drain or passage, flanked by two lower segment-headed arches that are now blocked. To the right, the wall has been reduced to a rubble core, which also includes another similar blocked arch.
