Description

The remains of an aqueduct are located on the west bank of the River Aln, approximately 100 metres above Lesbury Bridge. This structure dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and was designed to carry the head race for Lesbury Mill over the river. It features tooled and tooled-and-margined stonework. A broad but low skew arch still stands, which once supported a timber superstructure. Next to this arch is a 13-metre long channel that is 2.3 metres wide, with side walls that rise to a height of 1.2 metres. The aqueduct is included in the register for its historical significance.
