Description
The bridge over Back Burn, located 20 metres east of Park Lodge, dates from the late 18th century and features attached railings. It is constructed from high-quality squared stone and wrought iron. The bridge has a single segmental arch with recessed voussoirs, topped by a band and flanked by pilasters. These pilasters have domed niches both above and below the band, with single niches on the end pilasters. The bridge is finished with a flat-coped parapet. At the west end of each parapet, there are openwork box-section wrought-iron piers adorned with palmette panels and a central moulded urn finial, each flanked by four smaller urns. A short length of railing extends east along the parapet from each pier, featuring spearhead bars and a top rail that ramps down and curves in a scroll. Additionally, there is a short length of similar railing to the south of the southern pier.
