Description
The railway viaduct over the River Wansbeck is a Grade II listed structure built in 1847 for the York, Newcastle and Berwick railway. It was designed by engineers Robert Stephenson and T E Harrison. The viaduct is constructed from rock-faced stone with tooled ashlar dressings and features nine segmental arches supported by tall tapering piers, which have rounded cutwaters on the river side. It also includes a moulded impost band and rusticated voussoirs. The southern part of the viaduct is located within the Morpeth municipal boundary.
