Description

This fountain, located approximately 30 yards south of the Church of St. Bartholomew in Whittingham Village, was built in 1874 and is designed in the Gothic style. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar, marble, and ceramic tiles.

The fountain features a square base with pointed-arched panels on each side. On the east side, there is an attached octagonal stone basin, above which is a lion's head that serves as the water spout. The north side displays a copper plate inscribed with the virtues of Elizabeth Ann, the wife of the Rev. Goodenough.

The central stage of the fountain is square and has elaborate cusped openings beneath gablets, with short marble colonettes at each corner. Inside these openings are ceramic tiles that are incised with images of ladies' heads and doves. The structure is topped with a stone octagonal steeple adorned with foliage and a ball finial.
