CRASTER CRASTER TOWER

Screen and garden walls to north-west of Craster Tower

GV II

Screen and garden walls. Late C18. Whinstone; east wall rubble with squared stone upper part, north wall snecked rubble; cut sandstone dressings. L-plan, enclosing garden on north and east; east wall joins north-west corner of tower (q.v.).

East wall is a stepped screen wall; south end, with full-height stepped buttress on west, is almost as tall as tower. Midway along is an opening with bell. 4-metre high north wall has boarded door in pointed arch at east end; at west end is a short return to north containing similar door with foliate hinges, joining south-west corner of south range of stables. Embattled coping throughout.
