Description
The screen and garden walls to the north-west of Craster Tower date from the late 18th century. They are constructed from whinstone, with the east wall made of rubble and a squared stone upper part, while the north wall is made of snecked rubble, featuring cut sandstone dressings. The walls form an L-shape, enclosing the garden on the north and east sides, with the east wall connecting to the north-west corner of the tower.
The east wall serves as a stepped screen wall, and its south end has a full-height stepped buttress on the west side, making it almost as tall as the tower. There is an opening with a bell located midway along this wall. The north wall rises to 4 meters and has a boarded door in a pointed arch at the east end. At the west end, there is a short return to the north that contains a similar door with foliate hinges, linking to the south-west corner of the south range of stables. The walls feature embattled coping throughout.
