Description
The gateway spanning the road to the north of Craster Tower is an ornamental structure built in the late 18th century. It is constructed from whinstone rubble, featuring cut sandstone quoins, dressings, and a parapet, all designed in the Gothick style. The gateway has a four-centred arch with a square impost band, and above it, there is a cruciform loop flanked by quatrefoil loops. Below the embattled parapet, there is a hollow-chamfered string. The returns of the gateway display a similar band, string, and parapet. The lower flat-coped rear wall includes a central gateway, although it lacks an arch.
