Description
The Kings Head Hotel is an inn dating from the early 18th century that has been altered over time. It is constructed of rubble with tooled dressings and features a slate roof with stone gable stacks. The building is rectangular in shape, with a rear wing that includes a first-floor ballroom above what was once stabling.
The front of the hotel has three storeys and two windows. A central six-panelled door is set within a decorative overlight and is surrounded by a rusticated frame, with 20th-century windows on either side. The first floor has 20th-century windows in older openings, which have projecting lintels and sills, while the second floor features altered sash windows with tooled lintels and sills. The gable of the rear wing includes a canted bay with sash windows. The left side of the building has a blocked segmental-headed carriage entrance, two large 16-pane sash windows on the first floor, and two 12-pane sash windows on the second floor.
Inside, the first floor contains two early 18th-century fireplaces and an altered 18th-century staircase with a moulded handrail. The function room, which was formerly the ballroom in the rear wing, boasts a fine 18th-century fireplace and a plaster cornice decorated with flowers and foliage.
