Description
The farmhouse at Middle Lipwood dates from around 1700, and likely incorporates earlier building materials. It is constructed with rendered walls, tooled dressings, and has a slate roof with stone-coped gables featuring moulded kneelers. Stone stepped gable stacks are also present. The house is two storeys high with attics, and has two windows at the front. A 20th-century part-glazed door is located to the right of centre, set within an older, chamfered surround with a weathered datestone above, inscribed with "1747(?)" likely indicating a repair or alteration date. The windows are 19th-century margined sashes. Dormers are visible, each with a coped gable, moulded kneelers, and small four-pane sashes. The interior shows evidence of alterations, including a fireplace with a chamfered stone surround in the right-hand ground floor room, and panelled shutters to the ground floor windows. A 20th-century ground floor extension is present to the right, and altered farm buildings to the left are not considered to be of interest. The property was formerly known as Low Lipwood, as shown on Ordnance Survey maps.
