Description
The storehouse adjacent to the east of number 12 is possibly of medieval origin and may have been part of the town's defences or the substructure of the Bishop of Durham's Palace. It has two upper floors dating from the 18th century and features a crow-stepped gable end facing the street. The building is constructed of brick over a substantial rib-vaulted basement, which previously extended further east. It stands three storeys tall with one window visible from the street. The second floor has a semi-circular glazing bar sash window. The eastern return of the building includes a brick modillion cornice and three arched openings at ground level. There is a door leading to the basement from the street that has a grille. At the rear, there is a crow-stepped gable from a former stable associated with Prospect House.
