Description
The bridge over Howick Burn, located 150 metres southeast of Howick Hall, dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and features an attached churchyard wall and gateway. It is constructed from squared tooled stone with ashlar dressings and rock-faced voussoirs. The bridge has a round arch and a band beneath the parapet, which includes a central three-bay balustraded section flanked by panelled ends. The balustrade consists of shaped square balusters and a low-pitched moulded handrail, with pilasters at each end. The churchyard wall, which is attached to the south end of the west parapet, has a coping that sweeps up to connect with square gatepiers topped with banded pyramidal caps. A rubble wall located 10 metres south of the gateway is not considered of special interest.
