Description
The Iron Bridge, located across the Debdon Burn 80 metres north-west of Cragside, is a footbridge manufactured in the 1870s at Lord Armstrong's Elswick Works. It features a steel superstructure supported by rock-faced piers and abutments. The design includes a semicircular arch flanked by half arches, with intersecting curving members in the spandrels. The bridge has a boarded walkway and handrails made of slender uprights that carry four wire ropes. Additionally, there are lightweight cast-iron double gates at each end of the bridge. Part of the structure is situated in Rothbury Parish.
