Description

The stables and groom's cottage attached to Halton Castle date from the 17th or 18th century. They are built from roughly dressed stone and feature a stone slate roof. The structure is a single range that is two stories on the right side and becomes single-storey due to the rise of the land, with a total of nine irregular bays.

On the left, the cottage and tack room have an early 19th-century doorway with a chamfered surround, flanked by two-light windows that also have chamfered surrounds. To the right, there is a three-bay stable with a two-leaf door set in an alternating-block surround, along with larger two-light 19th-century windows in chamfered surrounds.

Further to the right, outside stone stairs lead to a granary, followed by another stable that features a two-leaf door in an alternating-block surround and flanking half-slatted windows. There is also a Victorian wall letter-box on the right and a dovecote with five holes and alighting ledges on the right return. The building has a steeply-pitched gabled roof with reverse crow-stepped gables.
