Description

This is a terrace of eight early 19th-century houses located on the west side of Regent Square, Headland, Hartlepool. The houses are built of painted stucco and render over brick and have Welsh slate roofs with eight brick ridge stacks, some of which have been truncated. The terrace steps down gradually from right to left across four levels.

Each house is two bays wide, with a single bay return to number 1. Every house has a round-headed doorway on the left-hand side, and the houses numbered 4 to 7 have wood pilaster and entablature doorcases, with panelled doors to numbers 6, 7, and 8. Above each right-hand bay, there is a canted first-floor oriel window with a moulded entablature and simple flanking pilasters. The sashes on the first floor have been renewed on the houses numbered 1, 2, and 3, with late 19th-century sashes on house number 4. All other windows and doors have been altered in the mid to late 20th century, although they remain within the original openings. The windows have painted stone sills and some have wedge lintels. Rear wings and extensions are not considered to be of significance.
