Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of seven houses, including the property at 23 Regent Street, located on Hartlepool Headland. The houses are built of pease brick with Welsh slate roofs, with six brick axial ridge stacks, the one between numbers 11 and 12 being rendered. The terrace has three storeys and 13 bays, plus an additional bay associated with 23 Regent Street. Each house features a two-story canted bay window to the left, containing sash windows (except at 23 Regent Street, which has mid-20th century casements). A heavy dentilled cornice and frieze runs between the floors, and acts as a hood over the doorcases to the right. Houses 10 and 23 Regent Street have simpler pilasters and panelled reveals to their doorways, while number 11 features engaged fluted Roman Doric columns. Number 23 Regent Street has a doorway in the left return side. The doors themselves are of two vertical panels. The right-hand side bays of the first floor are blank. Second-floor windows have mid-to-late 20th century casements in original openings, except at number 12, which retains sash windows; all windows have painted stone sills. There is an early 20th century raking roof dormer to number 12. A later two-story pent extension, and a mid-20th century flat-roofed garage attached to the right return of number 14, are not considered to be of architectural significance.
