Description

This is a substantial, two-story farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with a later addition from the early 19th century. The original farmhouse consists of two wide bays, and a rear span was added in the early 19th century, projecting to the east. The older section is built of rubble stone, now rendered, while the rear span is of local pinkish brick. Both sections have pantiled roofs with end chimneys; the original roof is very steeply pitched and has swept eaves. The first floor has renewed sash windows in near-flush box frames. On the ground floor are two early 19th-century rounded bows, featuring reeded pilasters with medallions in the heads, entablatures, and flat, leaded roofs. The replaced central six-panel door is top-glazed and has an oblong fanlight with margin lights. The interior contains early 19th-century fittings and woodwork, including an elliptical hall arch with reeded pilasters and carved spandrels, and a staircase with a spiral rail end featuring a central column newel. There is an enriched doorcase to the drawing-room, along with a fine brass lock and ringer plates on the door.
