Description
This is an outbuilding and linking wall located 5.0 metres behind the Garden House in Houghton-le-Side, dating from the early 19th century. Originally a cart shed with a loft, it is now used for storage. The building is constructed of coursed rubble that has been painted white. It features a pantiled roof and brick chimney stacks. The structure is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The central section has a boarded door set beneath a segmental brick arch, with a Dutch door to the left and an external stone stairway to the right. The stairway, which has an iron handrail supported by iron twist balusters, leads to another boarded door. The end stacks have been rebuilt. A tall, flat-coped wall connects the cart shed to the rear of the Garden House. This building is included for its group value.
