Description
The Roman milestone, located against the west wall of Rokeby Park, dates from the 3rd century AD and was moved to its current position in the 18th century. It is made of sandstone and is roughly shaped into a cylindrical pillar that stands 2.0 meters high. The milestone features an inscribed dedication to the emperors Gallus and Volusianus, who reigned from AD 251 to 253. This artifact was discovered in or before 1727 near the south-west corner of the Greta Bridge fort.
