Description
The sundial located on the lawn west of Rokeby Park is a Grade II listed structure. It features a medieval shaft made of grey limestone that contains fossil corals. The shaft has a semi-octagonal shape, a moulded cap, and carved heraldry on its front faces. It stands on a later square base. This shaft may have originally been part of a tomb recess, likely dating from the 15th century, and is thought to have been brought from Egglestone Abbey. The 20th-century bronze sundial on top is not considered of interest.
