Description

The platform located on the lawn west of Rokeby Park dates from the 18th century and features Roman altars. It is constructed from squared stone paving and has a step on the south side. The platform is surrounded by a flat-coped dwarf wall that supports five Roman altars, one of which has a legible inscription dedicated to Mars and was set up by Enemnogenus. Additionally, the site includes other Roman and medieval fragments. The altar dedicated to Mars was likely brought from Birdoswald.
