Description
This group consists of four mid-18th century headstones located approximately 17 meters south and southwest of the transept of the Church of St Andrew.
The first headstone, about 9 meters south of the transept, commemorates John Adamson of Shildon, who died in 1757. It features a slab approximately 0.5 meters high with a shaped top. The second headstone, located about 5 meters south of the first, is dedicated to Stephen Wright of Byers Green, who died in the 1730s. This slab also stands at approximately 0.5 meters high and has a bracket top with large letters.
The third headstone, situated about 4 meters southeast of the first, honors Mary Wilkinson, who died in 1737. It has a slab approximately 0.5 meters high with an elaborately shaped top and spirals carved at the head. Lastly, the fourth headstone, located about 5 meters east-southeast of the first, is a slab approximately 0.5 meters high dedicated to a child. It features tooled sides and a richly-carved cherub's head on the reverse.
