Description
The structure consists of a wall, ha-ha wall, and railings located to the south of East Shaws Farmhouse. Likely built in the late 18th century, it underwent alterations and additions in the mid-19th century. The west wall is made of roughly-dressed sandstone and features flat coping. It extends south for approximately 30 meters and includes a central section that was raised in the mid-19th century when farm buildings were constructed against its rear face. The left section of the wall has a quadrant ramp that reduces its height from about 3.0 meters to 1.5 meters, connecting to the ha-ha wall at the south-west corner.
The ha-ha wall, which is around 0.5 meters high, runs east for about 20 meters and is topped with cast-iron railings that have alternating standards and half bars. The standards are designed with a turned-baluster profile and feature ornamental pointed finials. A cast-iron gate with matching details is flanked by two octagonal stone piers that have pointed tops. This structure is included for its group value. The farm buildings attached to the rear of the west wall are not of special interest.
