Description
Ushaw Home Farm's cart shed, built between 1851 and 1852 by Joseph Hansom, is a single-storey structure with six bays, designed as part of a planned farm layout. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings. The south elevation facing the road is blank, with a small square chimney located on the mid-slope of the roof. An attached wall curves from the east end of the building to create an entrance to the farmyard, which is flanked by a wall of a pigsty. The north elevation includes a boarded door and a small window in the first bay, both with stop-chamfered jambs and low-pointed heads. The piers of the cart entrances also display similar stop-chamfered details, and some entrances have been blocked.
