Description
The building is a byre located to the left of Levy Pool Farmhouse, possibly dating from the late 18th century, with a roof that was reconstructed in the 19th century. It is constructed from small, roughly-coursed and squared rubble, featuring clay vents, and has a thatched roof made of ling. The structure is one storey high and consists of two bays, with two boarded doors and two hit-and-miss windows. It has a very high-pitched roof.
Inside, the space is divided by a full-height masonry partition. On the left side, there are two levels of log purlins, while the right side has three levels of sawn and re-used members, all set into the gable end walls and the partition. There are no plates or ties present. The roof features two tiers of rough rafters that overlap in the middle, with the upper rafters nailed to a sawn ridge piece. There is also a similar one-storey extension to the left that is roofless. At the time of the survey, the byre was disused and in a dilapidated condition.
