Description
Nesbitt Hall is a large farmhouse dating to 1697, with later alterations. It is built of limestone rubble with renewed Welsh slate roofs and rebuilt brick stacks. The building follows a T-plan, featuring a central stair wing to the rear. The three-storey front elevation has irregular window placement and a projecting gabled wing to the left, visible from both the front and rear. A central doorway is sheltered by a 20th-century glazed gabled porch; the date 1697 and initials RIB are inscribed above the door, although now largely hidden by panelling. An oval window, set within a moulded rectangular surround, sits above the porch. The front features late 20th-century casement windows and a boarded opening below the eaves. A blocked two-light mullioned window is located high in the right return of the gabled wing. The steeply-pitched roof has raised verges with moulded copings and shaped kneelers. The main block is distinguished by two ridge chimneys. The rear elevation mainly has 20th-century casement windows, alongside two gabled wings with moulded copings, shaped kneelers, and truncated finials. The interior has been modernised but retains a late 17th- to early 18th-century open-well staircase, consisting of six flights and two landings. This features a full-height newel post, closed string, moulded handrail, and turned balusters. 20th-century additions to the left return and rear are not considered to be of particular interest.
