Description
This is an outbuilding, likely a stable, located at the rear of the Golden Lion public house in Barnard Castle. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of painted rubble with quoins and ashlar dressings. The roof is not visible. The north elevation faces the yard and has two storeys with a three-window range. There are three boarded doors with slatted overlights on the central and right sides, all under flat stone lintels. Above these doors, there are two windows featuring 24-pane and 16-pane sashes, both under thin stone lintels, with the right window showing some cracks, and both having projecting stone sills. The roof is partly hipped on the left side. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value with the public house.
