Description
This is a mid-18th century house, with alterations from the early 19th century, located on Galgate in Barnard Castle. The exterior is painted incised render with tooled ashlar dressings, with a left return wall of rubble construction, and a Welsh slate roof featuring stone gable coping and a brick chimney. The house is two storeys and has a two-window front. A central half-glazed door is flanked by shallow, bay windows that were renewed in the late 1980s to replicate the originals. These bay windows have four-pane sashes, projecting stone sills, decorated pilasters and prominent cornices. The upper floor windows are simple sashes with plain stone surrounds. A shaped stone inscription panel is located in the centre of the front but is now obscured by a late 20th-century name-board. The roof has a chimney at the right end and stone gable coping resting on tooled, cyma-moulded kneelers. The right return wall has a blocked door. A flat-roofed first-floor extension is visible at the rear. The interior of the property has not been inspected.
