Description

A terrace of three houses, numbers 77, 79, and 81, with attached walls, was likely built around 1870, possibly by Joseph Kyle and Sons. The houses are constructed of thin courses of rock-faced stone, accented by ashlar quoins and dressings. The roofs are of Welsh slate, featuring red ridge tiles, stone gable copings, and stone chimneys. The porch on the right side of number 77 has a decorative bargeboard and wood trellis. The architectural style is Gothic Revival.

The houses present a two-storey face with a 3:2:2-window range, and a single set-back entrance bay to the right of number 77. Steps lead up to panelled doors, centrally located in number 81, and on the right side of the other houses. These doors feature shaped overlights within moulded surrounds, distinguished by low pointed heads, flower-stopped dripmoulds, and relieving arches. Similar pointed heads and moulded surrounds are found on the ground-floor windows to the right of number 77 and on the full-height canted bays to the left. First-floor windows in the canted bays and above the doors have shouldered heads. All windows are plain sashes with sloping sills, and the single-light windows have alternate block jambs. The roofs of the bay windows are hipped and topped with wrought-iron finials. Tall stone chimneys are positioned mid-ridge, front and back, and at the right of each house. A pent roof shelters the porch which is set back at the right. The interior was not inspected.

Attached walls have chamfered stone coping along garden paths and flanking the steps. Tall gate piers, with plinths and stepped octagonal coping, mark the entrance. The gates have been renewed, and railings have been removed.
