Description
This is a late 18th-century building, originally one house, now divided into three shops and flats. It is located on Galgate, Barnard Castle. The exterior is painted render with painted ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a hipped roof covered in stone slate, with stone and brick chimneys. The front has a five-window arrangement. The left-hand side, comprising numbers 82 and 82A, features a simple shop front with plain pilasters, windows with slender mullions and transoms, and central paired panelled doors with high overlights. These doors have a sloping fascia and a shallow cornice, and are protected by folding canopies supported by hinged iron stays. Number 82B on the right has a reeded fascia over a boarded door and plain overlight leading to a house, along with a renewed shop door. A shop window to the same side also has slender mullions and transoms. The first floor has three canted bay windows at the centre and ends, with plain sashes and prominent cornices. Other windows are spaced irregularly, with painted stone wedge lintels and projecting stone sills. The low-pitched roof has brick chimneys rising from the eaves, and a transverse ridge chimney between the second and third houses. The interior has not been inspected.
