Description
The stable block of Fawnlees House, along with a mounting block, was built in 1843 and is now used as a garage and house. It features painted rough render with ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof, complemented by ashlar and brick chimneys. The structure has a T-plan with a left extension.
The main building is two storeys high and has seven bays, with the central bay being wider and projecting beneath a low gable. There is a central double vehicle entrance that is boarded and topped with a fanlight featuring vertical glazing bars, set within an elliptical-headed arch that includes a keystone and stepped voussoirs, which is dated 1843. Above this entrance, there is a pivoted light in a similar style. A boarded door is located in the plain stone surround at the centre of the right three bays. The building has two-light windows on the right and in all first-floor bays, which are adorned with flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills. The left part of the building features three ground-floor sashes with paired lights, while the outer bays have segmental heads. The hipped roof is topped with a brick chimney on the left ridge and an octagonal ashlar chimney with a plinth and cornice on the right ridge. A central weather-vane with a large bronze fox finial, which is partly eroded, is present.
The left extension is set back and is one storey high with three bays. It includes a boarded vehicle door on the left, a central boarded door, and a right sash window that has late 19th-century glazing bars, all featuring flat stone lintels and projecting stone sills.
In front of the right end window of the stable building, there is a stone mounting block.
