Description
East Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse with an early 19th century addition to the left. The farmhouse is constructed of limewashed rubble with pantiled roofs and renewed brick stacks, following a long, narrow rectangular plan. The earlier 18th century range is two storeys high with four windows. It features a massive stone plinth and two steps lead to an early 19th century door with an overlight on the left side. A blocked original doorway and a 16-pane horizontal sliding sash window are visible on the right. Remaining windows are early 19th century 4-pane sashes, all with oak wedge lintels. The building has plain close eaves and a low, coped gable parapet with kneelers. The moderately-pitched roof incorporates some black-glazed pantiles, and there are 20th century brick gable stacks.
A lower, early 19th century range is attached to the left, with two storeys and two windows, featuring 4-pane sashes. It has a low-pitched, hipped roof with a central ridge stack from the 20th century. There is a single-bay return to the left.
Inside the 18th century range, one ground floor room has ceiling beams of differing widths, some chamfered and some plain, possibly re-used from an earlier building. Three pairs of heavy upper crucks are partially visible in the first floor bedrooms of the 18th century range, while two pairs of thin upper crucks are also partially visible in the early 19th century addition.
