Description

Stonechester Farmhouse and the adjoining cowhouse are a combined structure dating from the late 18th century. The building is constructed of thinly-rendered sandstone rubble, featuring quoins and brick and ashlar dressings. The roofs are covered with 20th-century tiles and Welsh slate, and there are brick chimneys.

The cowhouse is located on the left side and consists of a one-storey, one-bay section and a two-storey, three-bay section. The farmhouse itself is two storeys high with three bays, making a total of seven bays across the entire structure. The cowhouse has alternate-block jambs leading to a Dutch door in the one-storey section and a central boarded door in the two-storey section. There are blocked openings above these doors, and a window has been inserted into a blocked doorway on the right side of the cowhouse.

The farmhouse features flat stone lintels above a boarded-up window on the left and a wide window on the right. The rendering obscures what may have been a central door. The first-floor windows are sashes, with the right window being wider and containing 20 panes, while the left window dates from the late 19th century and has brick lintels. The house has end brick chimneys, and the right return gable includes a boarded door. At the rear, there is a one-storey, one-bay extension with a catslide roof, and steps lead to a loft over the cowhouse.

The building was empty at the time of the survey.
