Description
The Mackintosh tomb, located approximately 9 metres east of the Church of St. Mary and St. Stephen, dates from around 1828. It is made of sandstone and stands about 2 metres high with a shaped top. The tomb features a long inscription commemorating Robert, who died in 1828, William, who died in 1815, and their sister Isabella, who died in 1845 at the age of 11 years. The inscriptions include poems for Robert, which read: "Stop Passinger See Here I Lie/What Thou Art Now So Once Was I/What I Am Now So Must Thou BE/ Prepare for Death to Follow ME," and for Isabella, which states: "IN SICKNESS SORE/LONG TIME I BORE/PHYSICIAN WERE IN VAIN/TILL GOD DID PLEASE/TO GIVE ME EASE/AND FREE ME FROM MY PAIN."
