Description
The garden walls and summerhouse, located 20 metres west of Selaby Hall, date from the mid-19th century and incorporate features from the 18th century. The south gateway is made of dressed sandstone, while the east wall is constructed from sandstone rubble with a flat coping. The north wall is primarily made of mid-19th century brick and also has a flat stone coping. The summerhouse is built from dressed sandstone and features a graduated green slate roof.
The south gateway features a roll-moulded pointed arch with two orders on compound piers set into the wall. Above the arch, there is a re-set head corbel and flanking shields. The summerhouse has a projecting semicircular bay in front of a square-plan room, with the bay containing a 4-pane fixed light under a hoodmould and a semiconical roof. There is a square-headed doorway on the right return of the summerhouse. Both returns are connected to the east wall by double, quadrant ramps. The east wall is linked to the north wall by a short section of brick wall that has a convex quadrant plan.
The west wall and south wall are very low and do not hold special interest.
