Description

The castle wall surrounding the motte on the west, north, and east sides is a Grade I listed structure. It is medieval in origin, with an upper section added in the 17th century. The wall is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and brick. The lower part of the wall, which encloses the motte, is made of stone and features large, renewed buttresses. The upper part is made of brick and has either gabled or flat stone coping.
